Robotic painting system is widely used for modern paint shop construction, painting robot is primary choice for its flexible programming in handling different products paint spraying. But what’s actually included for a painting robot system? It’s not just a single robot arm but a system with multiple devices. In this article, we provide indepth guides about a painting robot system configuration and how to customize each device in right way.
Genearally, a painting robot system is composed by following: robot arm, robot installation platform, turner table, spray booth, paint pump and spray gun.
Robot Arm
The basic but core device. The choice of robot arm mainly on two points – payload and reach limit. Payload is determined by the type of spray gun we will use, the general capacity of painting robot is 3-6KG which is enough for most applications. Reach limit means the maximum reach point within robot capacity, it will depend the product size we need to paint. Different payloads and reach limits will finally determine robot cost so it’s a serious consideration.
Robot Installation Platform
Also an important device for painting robot fixing. There’re many ways of configuration depends the painting system setup. Robot can be fixed on the ground, or hang structure or a movnig track.
Fixed on ground – the most traditional way of robot installation. This platform is a basic steel structure which is steadily fixed infront of paint booth. We can easily do programming and observe closely its performance. It’s also relatively safe as it’s loaded on the ground.
Hang installation – a popular way to reduce space ocupation. In order to hang the robot, we have to make a special hang platform which needs to be installed together with paint booth. Because of this, we have to get the booth design in order to make a suitable configuration.
Moving track – advanced setup for big objects handling. Robot is running on this platform in order to handle properly on different areas.
Turner Table
A must device for semi automatic setup. Turner table can be single or multi stations for product transfer, it can be a stand alone device or together setup with painting robot depends the painting requirements. Turner table is not a standard offer with robot, so when you compare multiple quotations, you must check carefully about available items.
Spray Booth
A must unit for paint spraying operation. Spray booth is in position to maintain a clean area and also for waste paint collection. Either water curtain setup or dry filter construction, it has to be compatible with robot reach limit and robot installation requirement.
Paint Pump & Spray gun
Paint pump choice vary a lot from pressurised tank, pneumatic diaphragm pump or gear pump etc. The choice of pump also depends the type of spray gun to be used. If we use air based spray gun, diaphragm pump is the most popular selection for it’s easy and high efficiency. But if we use a electrostatic bell, we will need gear pump for its special controal properties. Sometimes we also use airless spray gun which requires a special paint pump.
The different choice of paint pump and spray gun will result in different programming control and choice of a variety of electric components. Once it’s fixed, we will keep as it is in actual working schedule.
As explained above, robotic painting system is not a standard configuration and each device can be tailored by specific application. So when we need to install such system, make sure to have a basic understanding and consult to a professional supplier for suggestions.
