Electrostatic spray gun is widely used for high end spraying. But it’s not easy to have it working well while a good operation will improve the coating efficiency. Following we will provide a quick guide of electrostatic spray gun operation and tips of maintenance.
Before spraying
Electrostatic spray gun and it’s related equipment should be cleaned and in normal working condition. Compressor is ready with air dryer and oil filter with safe connection to spraying equipment. Before we start spraying, we should inspect the following:
- if all cables and tubes are properly connected
- if the electrostatic generator is well grounded
- close the paint cycling valve then put the paint supply tube into supply drum
- workpiece must be conductive on conveyor
To reach the desired atomization, we should set correct air pressure (as low as possible). Extra high pressure will not improve the coating quality but just reduce equipment life cycle and spray nozzle. Paint will also bounce under high pressure to cause quality problem.
During spraying
- ensure stable 3 MPa air pressure to paint pump
- open the paint tube valve for spray gun connection, the paint is now reached to spray gun
- open the pressure gauge valve on electrostatic generator and adjust air pressure to 6 MPa
- if the air pressure on spray gun is too high during spraying process, adjust to smaller value
- adjust the atomization, ensure the atomization and fluid volume and air pressure are under good state
- turn on the power of electrostatic generator, adjust the static electricity to 60kv then pull the gun trigger.
After Spraying
- after the spray gun is used, it needs to be cleaned in time, but the power must be turned off before cleaning.
- close the air pressure gauge on static generator (pull the trigger to ensure spray gun has no air pressure);
- take up the paint suction pipe then put into the cleaning solvent, now start spraying the cleaning solvent
- take up the paint suction pipe and open the oil return pipe valve, clean the pump after the solvent returns then turn off the air supply
- remove the nozzle then clean up with solvent
Safety Tips
- please operate in a well-ventilated place with good illumination
- do not apply in areas with sparks or combustibles
- the spraying device should be set idle for more than 10 seconds without paint
- it cannot be used to spray paints containing glue or particles, solvent-free or high corrosive
- spraying equipment must connect with correct electricity, incorrect voltage will break the engine in short time
- when unplugging the socket, do not unplug the cable inside device.
- do not smoke while spraying.
