Spray painting machine is widely used in almost all industries for it’s flexible application. Safety is considered more and more due to uprising issues caused by various reasons. Beside furthermore training to improve the safety concept and experience sharing, we also need to avoid potential factors from the initial start such as machine designing and production. Here we have a safety list including both mechanical and electric tactic.
Mechanical construction
Most part of painting machine construction is mechanical. Although the basic logic and concept is pretty simple, the final presentation can can easily tell the manufacturer’s skill and management level. Beside the general functionality, we have to pay attention to each small piece considerring safety such as no sharp edge and corner protection etc. For example after a steel plate machined, the edges is quite sharp as a knife. We must apply extra treatment to avoid any potential danger.
Especially those drive devices and contact of moving units, it should be well protected with necessary danger notes sticked.
Electric construction
Electrical equipment must be installed or serviced by a certified profession. When installing and repairing electrical equipment, painting work should be terminated, flammable and explosive materials such as paints and thinners should be placed in a safe area and blocked with non-combustible raw materials to prevent fire accidents caused by flames of electrical equipment. Electrical equipment and illumination lamps in paint shop must be installed with explosion-proof models.
Any automatic painting equipment, such as paint booth, centrifugal fans, nozzles, conveyor etc., should be installed with electrostatic grounding device, and its grounding wire resistance should not exceed 10Ω. Various closing knives, distribution boxes, disconnectors are installed outdoors at safe space area.
To ensure the fire safety in electrostatic spraying, the working voltage shall not exceed 80,000 volts, and the distance between spray gun and object shall not be less than 250mm to prevent fire accidents caused by high voltage.
Wire standard connection, cable conductors and insulators must be well protected. Cable routes should be subject to cable pipe safeguard measures.
Fire safety measures
Do not bring flammable and explosive materials such as lighters into the painting workshop. It is forbidden to smoke in the workshop. When a fire device required, it is a must to apply to the competent authority for audit procedures in advance and take strict fire safety measures to further ensure safety.
Labor protection measures
The painting workshop is strictly forbidden to use cell phones or any wireless talk devices that are very easy to cause static electricity accumulation. Must wear anti-static clothes, anti-fouling caps and anti-fouling sleeves when entering the painting room. To enter the paint booth and paint mixing room, must wear anti-static one-piece suit, anti-static labor protection shoes. If it’s an electrostatic gun, we need to configure electrostatic gloves. Electrostatic shoes with good grounding device and spray booth grills conductivity is excellent. If any paint or dilution accidentally, immediately wash with tap water then take to hospital.
Air and exhaust measures
Paint mixing room exhausting must be opened 24 hours to eliminate the solvent mist(prevent the solvent content from being too high and causing fire and explosion). The inside of waste gas treatment for paint room should also be kept unblocked and exhaust should be good to prevent fire and explosion. A gauge and alarm device should be in place to inspect gas content rate lively.
Safety precautions for paint storage
Paints and solvents should be stored in dry, shaded, naturally ventilated, insulated, and sun-free rooms. Do not share the space with general cargo. Fire and smoke is strictly forbidden about 30 meters of the storage room. “no fireworks” sign must be clearly posted.
Do not pile up cloth soaked in paint at the door of paint warehouse to prevent fire accidents caused by excessive inventory backlog. The repository must be set up with wooden shelves because steel structure can easily make a spark and causes a catastrophe.
Fire safety measures
The painting workshop or paint warehouse should be equipped with automatic fire extinguishing device, and the paint room should be equipped with cooling equipment to ensure its safety. Paint workshops, paint mixing rooms, dryer equipment, warehouses, etc. must be disciplined with sufficient fire extinguishers, dry sand and asbestos wrenches such as bubbles, powders, etc. The standard development of fire extinguishers is closely combined with decentralization. The admin should understand the basic knowledge of fire safety, fire extinguishing knowledge and be proficient in fire extinguishing. Fire extinguishers should be checked frequently and replaced on time
Painting staff should bear in mind the risk factors of flammable and explosive paint, and have certain knowledge of fire safety and fire extinguishing. Proficient in the use of fire extinguishers and simple firefighting equipment.
