Furniture is a big industry as it’s related to each family for every reason. Any furniture will need partial or complete painting treatment in factory either for decoration or surface protection purpose. In general, furniture items are available in full unit or just piece by piece component parts. In order to properly paint these different units we have to implement a suitable machine for each. In the following we will learn on these different pieces and advise a workable painting solution.
Flat board
The most common piece for furniture production such as cabinet, door and table etc. For such flat pieces, we normally need to paint top surface only or sometimes on the 4 edges. In order to paint the flat board properly, we normally make a horizontal conveyor system with a robotic sprayer to paint from above side. Depends the type of board we produce, there can be various sprayers such as a conventional spray gun to spray by reciprocating.
If the board or door needs to be fully coated on 6 sides, we will have to use this door painting machine. The holder can be rotated up and down so spray gun can paint everywhere properly.
There’s also a flow coater which is dedicated for wood industry. The sprayer is pouring a paint curtain while the board is passing through, by this way the top and edge surface will be fully coated quickly. Comparing to spray gun setup, this flow coater is simple design and high efficiency. The only weakness is we can not control the paint thickness well while it’s easy on spray gun programming.
Rod or stick
Also a popular piece with heavy production. As a support piece on furniture, it can be produced straight or curved with different pattern designs. In order to paint such items, we can not use the traditional painting machine considering the complexity and efficiency. Instead, we use a hang conveyor system with a electrostatic turbo bell in Ω paint booth. There’s a gear and teeth design in paint booth so all pieces will be continuous rotating when passing this area. Turbo bell is doing up/down reciprocating while spraying so all pieces will be properly coated.
This turbo paint booth is widely compatible with a lot of workpieces painting. Even with a complex pattern design, we can add a manual station after the turbo booth for slight repair spraying. It’s a popular installation for almost all furniture factories for it’s high efficiency operation. Painted pieces are automatically transfered to furnace chamber for paint curing then come out for a ready product. If you’re considering mass production over various designs, this setup is highly recommended.
Full unit
In order to get better decoration and general quality control, some small size furniture items are fully assembled before painting such as chair, drawer and desk. In order to paint such unit properly, we will have to use a robot arm to program well according to the surface property. Normally a robot arm with a turntable for product transfer in/out.
Because it’s an offline installation, the painting station and other devices such as oven has to be fixed separately.
Most of the time, people is always asking for a single machine to fit all above. But as we see from explanation, it’s not possible at all since we have to use different machines for different furniture parts. If we’re going to paint furniture, it’s the best if we can tell the exact piece we would like to work with. Machine supplier can then suggest a suitable solution.
