Common Surface Treatment Solutions for Metal Parts

Any metal production will need a form of surface treatment before arrived to user side. A bare metal will easily be oxidized or rusted if no proper surface treatment applied. We collected a list of common solutions for metal parts surface treatment for quick view.

1. Electroplating: Commonly used metal parts are electroplated with zinc, nickel, chromium, copper, etc., which has the functions of anti-corrosion, improving wear resistance, and enhancing aesthetics, etc.

2. Anodizing: Commonly used for aluminum alloy surface treatment, it is an essential process

3. Blackening treatment: can maintain the dimensional accuracy of parts, anti-corrosion and beautiful appearance

4. Spray painting: mainly for corrosion protection of exterior parts, such as racks, etc.

5. Polishing: Polishing refers to a processing method that uses mechanical, chemical or electrochemical effects to reduce the surface roughness of a workpiece to obtain a bright and smooth surface.

6. Knurling: Knurling is a mechanical process that rolls patterns on the handles or other working surfaces of metal products, mainly for anti-slip purposes.

7. Brushing: Brushing can give the metal surface a non-mirror-like metallic luster, and it can also eliminate subtle flaws on the metal surface.

8. Dacromet treatment: similar to electroplating, also named zinc-chromium coating.

9. Roller rubber coating: The rubber coated roller can effectively improve the operation of the conveying system, effectively prevent the sliding friction between the roller and the belt, and reduce the belt slippage.

10. Chemical plating: Chemical plating is a new type of metal surface treatment technology, which is similar to electroplating but in a different way.

11. Electrolytic coloring: The metal ions in the solution are reduced to simple substances or their compounds by electrolysis and adsorbed at the bottom of the oxide layer. The adsorbed substances interfere with the light and produce a coloring effect, so the color is not the color of the adsorbed substance.

12. Phosphating: Prevents metal from corrosion to a certain extent; used as a primer before painting to improve the adhesion and corrosion resistance of the paint film; plays a role in reducing friction and lubrication in metal cold processing technology.

13. Electrophoresis: used for stainless steel, aluminum alloy, etc., can make the product present various colors and maintain metallic luster, while enhancing surface properties and having good anti-corrosion properties.

14. Sand blasting: It is a process that uses compressed air as a power to form a high-speed jet beam to spray the material at high speed onto the surface of the workpiece to be processed, so that the appearance or shape of the outer surface of the workpiece changes to obtain a certain degree of cleanliness and different degrees of roughness.
